Art Teaching Alum Miguel Galaz at MICA

Miguel Galaz

Art Teaching Alumnus Miguel Galaz presents work from his Tarpuymunay art project at Mestizo Institute of Culture and Arts.

Tarpuymunay is an art project with the intention of creating cultural awareness through paintings, murals, and sculptures. It means ¨Cultivating Love¨ in Quechua, the language of the Andes. Being a Mexican-American immigrant living in Salt Lake City, Utah, along with traveling around the World, has given me the opportunity to be exposed to a sea of diverse cultures and traditions. These experiences have shaped me to understand the unique power of art, which is capable of touching the fibers that make us learn and feel more conscious about the world we live in.

The new exhibit also features work by local visual artist Miriam Gutierrez. The show runs through September 26, and can be seen at the upcoming closing reception on September 24th, or through MICA’s online virtual gallery tours.
