Incoming Freshman

Dear Incoming Freshman,

I would like to welcome you to the University of Utah Department of Art and Art History. The department is a vibrant place, providing artists and scholars with a place to pursue their passions. I encourage all incoming students to apply for our department Entering Freshman Scholarship.

We offer a $5,000 Entering Freshman Scholarship. Students interested in majoring in art at the University of Utah should apply online. A high school GPA of 3.5 is required for the Departmental Scholarship. Select students may also be nominated by the Department of Art & Art History for the Fine Arts Honors Scholarship, which is a renewable $5,000 tuition scholarship for up to four years of undergraduate study or a possible $20,000. A 3.2 GPA is required for this scholarship. Depending upon a student’s talent and portfolio, there may be additional scholarship money available at the time of the portfolio review, which does not require a minimum GPA.

Details of the portfolio review can be found on our website under Financial Aid and Scholarships. Go to the bottom of the page and click “Entering Freshman Departmental Scholarship Portfolio Review”. The application and recommendation forms are also listed. You should have applied and been accepted to the University of Utah to be eligible for the scholarship and the March review. Please contact the Department of Art & Art History with any questions you may have about the scholarship process.

One of the biggest regrets most students have after graduation is, they never applied for a scholarship. This is a great opportunity for you and a great way to start university life by being awarded money to help pay for your college education.

We hope to see you soon. Our nationally and internationally recognized faculty looks forward to working with young artists as you begin on your road to a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and the professional opportunities it offers.

Best Wishes,

Paul Stout
