ART 2400 Introduction to Visual Language

This course is designed to introduce 1st Year Studio pre-art majors to basic terms, methods, and concepts in the visual arts. Slide lectures will feature contemporary art- primarily works from the past three decades. The hundreds of images discussed during the semester will represent various experiments in the disciplines students will investigate as they move through the studio art program.

In this course, you will look, read, write, watch videos, explore websites, participate in online discussions, and visit museums and galleries that all deal with contemporary art. Through this course, you’ll learn the art world’s language and how to read art. You’ll further hone your analytical skills by writing about artwork. These are skills necessary for participating in studio course critiques and being a successful artist.
