Artists Everywhere: Portraits of Community
August 5 - 26, 2025
Alvin Gittins Gallery, University of Utah
Artists Everywhere: Portraits of Community celebrated the creativity, resilience, and interconnectedness of communities across Salt Lake City. This exhibition featured artwork created by participants in community-based programs led by teaching artists from the Department of Art & Art History at the University of Utah.
Through these programs, art becomes a means of expression, reflection, and connection. The works on view were created in collaboration with a wide range of community partners: individuals living with Parkinson’s disease; patients recovering from stroke, traumatic injuries, and disabling conditions at the Craig H. Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital; unhoused individuals receiving respite and hospice care at The INN Between; youth and families building community at the UNP Hartland Partnership Center; and K–12 students engaging in hands-on artmaking through the ArtsBridge program. Each artwork is a literal or metaphorical portrait of individual and collective experience.
By showcasing artwork not often seen in formal gallery settings, Artists Everywhere celebrated the creative potential within every individual. It honored the stories, voices, and visions that emerge when art is accessible, community-centered, and rooted in care.
