Carmen Winant is an artist, writer, and the Roy Lichtenstein Endowed Chair of Studio Art at The Ohio State University. Winant’s recent projects have been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, Sculpture Center, The Columbus Museum of Art, The Wexner Center of the Arts, and through CONTACT Photography festival, which mounted twenty-six of her billboards across Canada. Winant’s artist books — My Life as a Man and My Birth – were published by Horses Think Press, SPBH Editions, and ITI press. Her most recent artist book, Notes on Fundamental Joy; seeking the elimination of oppression through the social and political transformation of the patriarchy that otherwise threatens to bury us, was published by Printed Matter Inc. Her forthcoming projects will take place at The Henie Onstad Kunstsenter (Oslo), Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo (Mexico City), and Charlottenburg Kunsthall (Copenhagen). Winant’s work utilizes installation and collage strategies to examine feminist modes of survival and revolt. She is a 2019 Guggenheim Fellow in photography.
Made possible through the generous support of the Carmen Morton Christensen Endowment, the Department of Art & Art History, and the College of Fine Arts.
