The Department of Art & Art History is honored to showcase the artwork of Jorge Rojas from October 2nd through the 29th in the Gittins Gallery.

The opening reception is scheduled for October 2nd from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.

Artist Lecture: Jorge Rojas will give an Artist lecture at the University of Utah’s Department of Art & Art History, Art Building Room 158, on Wednesday, October 22nd, at 4:30 PM.

Closing Reception and Live Performance: The Gittins Gallery will host a closing reception for Jorge Rojas on Wednesday, October 29th, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. The performance will be at 6:00 PM.

Jorge Rojas: Coyotek

Jorge Rojas, a multidisciplinary artist born in Morelos, Mexico, has a distinctive artistic practice shaped by a life of constant movement between Mexico and the United States. His frequent travel within and outside these countries has led him to develop a universal visual language and an experimental approach to art.

The title, Coyotek, is a newly coined term combining the words “coyote” and “tech”. This term is a reflection of Rojas’s interests in borders, immigration policy, and new media and digital communication. It encapsulates the essence of Rojas’s work, which is about bridging ideas and concepts across cultures and creating a sense of connection.

Coyotek investigates Rojas’s conceptual and often political work, inspired by spiritual histories, abuses of power, interpretations of ancient rites, and human interconnectedness. Overall, Coyotek showcases Rojas’s diverse artistic practice, featuring a selection of his work, including photography, performance videos, and installations created over the past two decades. His work aims to build bridges of understanding between cultures, fostering a flow and exchange of ideas that resonate with people from all walks of life.
