   Photography/Digital Imaging Emphasis

The Photography/Digital Imaging emphasis has at its core the belief that the contemporary art student can no longer be defined by a single medium. As a student in our program you will develop in a setting that encourages the incorporation of traditional methods and theories with inquiries into current crossovers with film, video, installation and electronic media. The program also requires students to use the extensive library collections on campus as well as the new Utah Museum of Fine Arts. This combination of traditional approaches and contemporary critical ideologies provides a stimulating and nurturing environment for the creative artist to develop his or her personal style.

Our students have access to basic, advanced, and graduate darkroom facilities that have black and white and color capabilities as well as a fully equipped electronic lab with the latest imaging software. As part of the use of electronic media students develop personal web sites on which they display their work. Also, each year our students develop digital imaging work for a touring exhibition sponsored by the Utah Art Council, Pixels and Illusions. Photography students further have the opportunity to participate as photographers in the Utah Winter Games. This is a series of sporting events patterned after the Winter Olympics.
