Course Description
During the semester we will be working with the technical aspects of the camera, black and white printing, composition and concept. The course begins with manual camera operation. By using the manual exposure mode on your camera, you will be able to understand and control the capabilities offered to you, rather than allowing the camera to make these critical decisions for you. We will study natural lighting situations. Flash photography will be prohibited. By viewing the work of artists, we will learn how to look at a photograph and discuss it critically. By the end of the semester our goal is to have a clear understanding of how a camera operates. Following the segment on camera operation, we will be covering basic darkroom procedures for developing and printing, using black and white film.
