Course Text and Other Readings

Course Content and Objectives

Using oil paints, you will develop vocabulary, formal techniques, and the skills necessary for interpreting three-dimensional space onto the two dimensional picture plane. Introduction to supports, solvents, mediums, and grounds will be addressed and investigated. We will accomplish these perceptual paintings from still life’s, and a self-portrait/stencil. Homework will consist of eight small (8x10) perceptual paintings and two drawings. In class, there will be three paintings, minimum size of 18x24, consisting of two still lives and one self-portrait/stencil. These studio paintings will have a specific support, and all perceptual homework paintings on supports of your choice.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Attendance Policy

This is a studio class; there is no text for the class, in-class activities, lectures and discussions are a crucial component to the class content and cannot be made up if missed.
