Teaching and Learning Methods
Sketchbook
In addition to the outside assignments, students are expected to keep a personal sketchbook. This is an excellent opportunity to practice your drawing, compositional, and observational skills. A minimum of two sketches per week are required. Subject matter can be anything, as long as it is based from observation. Sketchbooks will be collected every Monday at the beginning of class and returned by the end of the class period.
Attendance Policy
Attendance is essential. The material obtained during the class period is valuable and irreplaceable. There is simply no way to make up for critiques, demonstrations, and class participation. There are no excused absences. Any more than four absences will result in an automatic failure for the class. No exceptions will be made. In the case of an absence, students are responsible to contact the instructor or a peer to learn what was missed, and are expected to make up the in class work.
Students are also expected to be on time. Arriving more than 10 minutes late to class will result in a tardy. Four tardies are the equivalent of an absence.Evaluation Methods and Grading Scale
Students will not be graded according to inherent drawing ability, but rather based on commitment, effort, and improvement scale. Also to be considered is the student’s ability to manifest the ideas and concepts addressed throughout the course. Late Assignments
Assignments are expected to be completed on time and turned in during the class period of the due date. Late work received before or during the following class period will receive a drop in the letter grade. Any assignment received after than will receive a 50% grade reduction. Presentation of assignments MUST be clean and professional. Grading is based on out of class assignments, class participation (work in class, attendance, participation in discussions and critiques), and a mid term and final portfolio review.
