Course Description
The second semester of drawing continues the two-dimensional description with form and space using the visual element of value. The final two-thirds of the semester concentrates on color. Students begin with basic color mixing and work through a series of color-theory problems dealing with relativity of color, color illusions, psychological effects, and ideas pertinent to basic color harmony. Problems are both design-oriented and representational in nature. Pre-art major class.
Course Fee
$15.00 Are used to: supply materials to student for special projects; pay for 2 model sessions; support costs for studio

Course Content and Objectives
Teaching and Learning Methods
Exercises will increase in complexity throughout the semester. Students will receive frequent, short feedback on work handed in.
There will be at least 2 formal critiques during the term. Homework required 4 hours/week drawing, with an additional 1 hour/week attending exhibits and guest lectures; keeping up on art periodicals, etc. Up to 4 required exhibits will be assigned as part of course content.
Attendance Policy
Excellent on-time attendance will be a requirement in this course. (Students who have time conflicts should not enroll.) Sign roll (in approximate ABC order) by class calendar each day.
Evaluation Methods and Grading Scale
For the lst half of term, I will grade all work on a simple check/check plus/ plus system. At midterm I will move to a 0-to-10 system, with 10 being a rare, end-of-semester grade. While you need to complete all required assignments, your final grade in this course will be weighted towards the grades received on work produced the final month. (While I will accept late work by dates on Calendar below, you would be wise to not get behind in this course where each problem builds on the lessons of its predecessor.)
A=Excellent. Rare grade. Ambitious effort resulted in 1 of strongest portfolios in group
B=Good. Solid work. Completed portfolio shows commitment & steady improvement
C=Fair. Attendance likely an issue. Missed assignments. Quality of work erratic
D=Poor. Missed too much content to receive Art major credit
E=No University credit
