Our purpose is to provide professional capstone experiences for graduating seniors within the studio art program.
Activities Any junior or senior in with the Department is welcome to join our group. The premiere event of our organization is the Annual Senior Exhibition. This exhibition features artwork from all areas of the BFA program. All graduating students from the department are eligible to put forth work to be considered for the exhibition. We engage a professional in the field, from outside of the department, to curate the exhibition. Our group schedules an off-campus gallery in which to show the work for about three weeks, and we sponsor the opening reception and the announcement cards for the exhibition. Participating in the staging of this exhibition will help you learn about professional exhibitions as an artist and as a gallery assistant. Our group is also active in assisting the department with the Visiting Artist and Art Historian Lecture Series. A member of the Senior Art Association that has a particular interest in a visiting artist, critic or historian composes and presents an introduction for the visitor's lecture. The student is mentored by the group's faculty advisor in this task. As a student preparing for this, you collect biographic materials on the lecturer and research her/his professional achievements. When the visitor comes to the University, you have special insight into their background and, through your conversations and insightful questions, are able to connect with them on a more in-depth level. Join us in these events and in finding new ways to make our final year a vital one. |
