Honors Tracks

A departmental Honors track for art history majors and for art majors is available to eligible students.  A sequence of honors courses are required for the Honors BA degree in Art History and the Honors BFA degree in Art.  Some of the courses are folded into the sequence of courses for the major.

Eligibility:  Declared art history and art majors who have a minimum 3.5 GPA are eligible for an Honors degree.  Transfer students need a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5.  First year students need a minimum admission index of 120 and a high school GPA of 3.5.  Transfer students will be individually advised of requirements based on the summary of transfer credit issued by the University.

Admission to the departmental Honors track:  Students must officially declare a major in the department and submit a DARS report to the department Honors committee.  When accepted, the student will meet with the Senior Academic Advisor to plan a course of study.  As a rule, Honors students should complete General Education and Bachelor degree requirements (such as American Institutions, Diversity) with courses in the University Honors College.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) and the Undergraduate Research Symposium:  All Honors students are encouraged to apply for a UROP grant to gain experience in proposal writing and as a means for further practice in their discipline.  It is strongly recommended that Honors students also submit an abstract to the juried University Undergraduate Research Symposium, held in the Spring Semester, to present their UROP or non-UROP sponsored research in a public forum.

Grade Requirement:  Departmental Honors students must earn a B or higher in any of the required courses for the Honors degree and maintain an overall GPA of 3.5.  The department Honors advisors will review DARS reports annually in consultation with the student to ensure that s/he can be retained in the program.
