Visiting Artists: Flinching Eye Collective
March 29 @ 5:00 pm
Originating in Colorado in 2011, the Flinching Eye Collective are a group of interdisciplinary media artists who work collaboratively at the intersections between sound, performance and technology. While building compositions out of saw blades or sewing machines, or using the human body as an electrical conduit, the act of listening becomes a key element of their enactments. Playfully shifting the audiences’ attention to different areas of the space, and implicating them along the way, the group accentuates the awkward, humorous, and intimate relationships humans have to the technologies that infiltrate daily life. Much of the Flinching Eye Collectives’s D.I.Y. aesthetic is conceptually grounded in re-fabricating or deconstructing instruments and tools, providing an alternative to the focus on utility in a pre-built society.
Made possible through the generous support of the Carmen Morton Christensen Endowment, Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, the Department of Art & Art History, and the College of Fine Arts.
