Yan Xing was born in 1986 in Chongqing, China, graduated from the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 2009, and now lives and works in Beijing and Los Angeles. His interdisciplinary projects, which involve sculpture, video, installation, and performance, comment on the manufacturing of history through the intersecting narratives of art history, autobiography, fantasy, and desire. He has exhibited and performed at numerous institutions and venues, including the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; Rubell Family Collection, Miami; Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, Michigan State University; Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing; Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston; and the Asian Art Museum, San Francisco. In 2009, he received the Chinese Contemporary Art Award for Best Young Artist and a nomination for the Future Generation Art Prize from the Pinchuk Art Centre, Kiev. Most recently, he was a Visiting Artist in the Department of Sculpture of the Yale School of Art (2016–17) and held a solo show, Dangerous Afternoon, at the Kunsthalle, Basel (June to August 2017).
