Art History Spring Symposium

The Art History faculty would like to share in your accomplishments in the Art History discipline. For this reason, we have instituted an annual Art History Spring symposium at which selected senior papers by Art History majors are presented before colleagues and friends. We encourage all majors and minors in Art History to attend this event regularly as they make their way through the program.

Titles of papers recently presented by our seniors include

  • The Ideal Body as Symbol of the Nazi State.
  • Gilbert and George: A Postmodern Critique.
  • Existentialism and Eastern Philosophy in Motherwell's Work.
  • Unknown Antiquities: Study of a Medieval Manuscript.

In order to be chosen for the conference program, you may submit an abstract for a 20-minute paper to the advisor of your senior paper, who forwards the abstract it to the Symposium Committee. The 1-page abstracts are juried for competency and quality, and you will be notified if the abstract for your paper was accepted. The Spring Symposium at which the 20-minute papers (8-10 pages) are delivered will occur approximately two weeks before the end of the semester. It is free and open to the public. Organizing information and specific dates for the conference are posted each year. Remember this makes a terrific entry on your résumé.
